Overview
This remodeled OB-GYN practice is located in a medical office building adjacent to Trinity Medical Center. It supports 8 physicians and up to 20 staff and includes separate “pods” for each physician with exam rooms, treatment room, nurses’ stations and other staff areas.
This project was a complete gut and remodel of existing clinic space, with the addition of over double the square footage, expanding into the vacant suite next door. The waiting area was relocated to the center of the combined spaces, with the reception desk and work area taking place in the “egg” shaped space piercing into the waiting area and into the circulation space behind.
The doctors wanted the main waiting area to be a welcoming space with a variety of seating options, privacy for check-in and check-out, a restroom for patients in the waiting area (especially for pregnant moms) and pleasing, durable finishes. Custom casework was designed for the reception desk with space for staff to double up between check-in and check-out. The “egg” shaped desk and ceiling detail offer a way to give privacy to patients as they are greeted by staff. The resin panels offer additional privacy. The solid surface transaction counter and the pendant lighting add a warm and welcoming feel.
A neutral color palette was chosen to give a timeless, less “gender related” scheme, too often seen in this type of medical practice. Espresso and natural wood tones and bleached oak vinyl plank floor were used to tie in the existing natural maple millwork and doors. The updated scheme creates a relaxed atmosphere with interesting texture and contrast.
